I remember exactly where I was & what I was doing the first time I heard from a local successful real estate agent who communicates to her clients her hours that she works. She said she works Monday through Friday 8-5, she works by apt only on evenings and Saturdays & she doesn’t work on Sundays to be home with her family.
I was so dumbfounded. I remember looking around and thinking “Can she do this” like it wasn’t allowed. That is how messed up our industry is. We have set the stage that real estate agents are expected to work 24/7, that we don’t have a home life or a family and that we always need to be available at a minutes notice. Why did we do this to ourselves??? There is no other industry that has these requirements but yet we still allow people to treat us this way. You guys we need to stop this madness!! We need to SET THE STAGE and take back our lives, take control of our business and overcome our Mom guilt.
Now when I meet with a client I go over my business hours and I set the stage and tell them I work Monday- Friday 8am-5pm, I am available by apt only evenings and Saturdays and I don’t work Sundays to go to church with my family! And guess what… I have NEVER lost a client over it, my clients actually respect me more and treat me like the professional I am!!
